Gandhinagar: Gujarat  ranks second in the country for marine fish production. Fish Production Figures Gujarat's average annual fish production over the last four years reached 8.56 lakh metric tons. In the year 2023-24 (October-September), marine fish production in the state was 704,828 metric tons, and inland fish production was 203,073 metric tons. Gujarat govt moves to amend fisheries rules; Turtle Excluder Device in trawl nets to become mandatory

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has moved for an amendment to the Gujarat Fisheries Rules, 2003, to introduce new regulations for trawl net fishing and making compulsory the use of a Turtle Excluder Device (TED) in trawl nets to protect marine life. The State government has published the draft of new rules under Section 30 of the Gujarat Fisheries Act, 2003 for public awareness. Gujarat govt bans Line Fishing and LED Light Fishing

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat, via gazette notification, has banned the "Line Fishing Method" and "Light Fishing or LED Light Fishing Method" under the amended rules of the Gujarat Fisheries Act, 2003. The new rules, published by the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Co-operation Department, come after public consultation on the draft rules published in October 2024.
