Gandhinagar: The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has removed 15-20 encroachments to open the service road for the Pethapur overbridge construction. The project will begin in a few days at Pethapur Crossroad. Traffic will be diverted to the service road first.
The GMC had paused the overbridge work for a month due to water line projects. Now that these are about to complete, the bridge construction will proceed. The bridge will be 1100 meters long and 27 meters wide, costing 66 crores. It will feature 10 spans of 35 meters each and 7-meter service roads on both sides.
Elevated roads are being built in many areas in the capital to reduce traffic issues. At Pethapur Crossroad, the cleared service road will handle diverted traffic initially. This 24-meter road, under the Roads and Buildings Department, will have 12-meter spaces on both sides as per Town Planning (TP) to ease congestion.
The Pethapur Crossroad, a vital junction with heavy traffic flow during peak hours, sees over 85,000 vehicles daily. Vehicles heading towards Mahudi, Visnagar, Randheja, and Rupaal pass through here. The bridge construction will address this long-standing demand. DeshGujarat
