Surat Airport Gets Nod for 24×7 Operations Permanently

Surat: In a major boost to the air connectivity of the South Gujarat region, Surat airport has been officially declared a 24×7 operational facility on a permanent basis, effective from 5:35 pm on Saturday.

The announcement was made through a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen A1259/25) issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with updates to the national aeronautical database. Although Surat airport was designated for round-the-clock operations in 2018, the plan could not be fully implemented due to a lack of air traffic controllers and other essential staff.

This major breakthrough comes after a temporary NOTAM, issued on May 7, 2025, enabled Surat airport to operate full-time for 90 days (from May 9 to August 9) to facilitate emergency landings by the Indian Air Force and Navy. Following the success of this trial period and the airport’s performance during the operation, the 24×7 status has now been made permanent.

This development marks a significant achievement for the airport and fulfills a long-standing request from the city’s business community. The 24-hour status is expected to attract more late-night and early-morning flights to major metros, thereby improving connectivity and boosting regional economic activity. With 18 parking bays available for night parking, the airport stands to earn additional revenue and attract more airlines.

Confirming the update, Surat Airport Director A N Sharma said, “We successfully operated the airport 24×7 over the last 90 days. With this permanent decision, we invite all airlines to expand their presence in Surat.” DeshGujarat
