Gujarat Police deploys High-Tech Rescue Vehicle Abhirakshak as Pilot in Ahmedabad, Surat Rural districts
August 05, 2025
Surat: To ensure timely treatment for accident victims and reduce fatalities in cases of serious road accidents across the state, the Gujarat Police has procured advanced “Abhirakshak” vehicles. These Accident Response and Rescue Vehicles have been deployed as part of a pilot project in Ahmedabad Rural and Surat Rural districts.
The budget for the project was approved by the Home Department for these special-purpose vehicles. Based on accident data analysis, two districts—Ahmedabad Rural and Surat Rural, were selected for the pilot deployment due to their higher incidence of serious accidents.
These Abhirakshak vehicles are designed to be the first responders at accident sites, providing immediate response and rescuing victims during the crucial “golden hour,” transporting them to the nearest hospital. The vehicles are especially useful in situations where victims are trapped inside a vehicle or have crashed at locations requiring complex rescue operations.
Equipped with an oxygen cylinder and over 32 specialized rescue tools and equipment, each vehicle includes metal cutters, glass cutters, bolt cutters, a telescopic ladder, stretcher, generator, and a winch capable of lifting heavy weights. Additionally, for effective night-time rescue operations, the vehicles are fitted with powerful lighting systems and generators.
Other features include night vision goggles, a public announcement system, traffic control light blinkers, and a dedicated chamber for drone operations. The vehicle’s body and entry-exit design are fireproof and resistant to attacks, making them particularly effective for rescue operations in crowded or sensitive areas.
Abhirakshak represents a proactive initiative by the Gujarat Police to save lives in road accidents. If the pilot project proves successful, similar rescue vehicles will be deployed in other districts across the state, an official statement said today.
Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi stated that such key decisions are part of an ongoing effort to equip the police force with advanced, citizen-focused technologies that serve the public interest. DeshGujarat
