MNS workers force removal of Gujarati board at BJP MLA’s office in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: A Gujarati signboard at the Jan Sampark office of a BJP MLA in Navi Mumbai’s Seawoods area was forcibly removed by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers, along with members of other political parties, on Monday.

The office is associated with Virendrasinh Bahadursinh Jadeja, the BJP MLA who represents the Rapar Assembly constituency in Kutch, Gujarat.

The move followed an ultimatum issued by the MNS last week demanding the board’s removal. To press their demand, MNS Navi Mumbai City Secretary Sachin Kadam, along with leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), led a protest march to the NRI Sagari police station.

The workers submitted a memorandum urging the police to replace the Gujarati sign with a Marathi one and to take action against those who, according to them, had “insulted” Marathi identity.

After that, the police assured them that the signboard would be removed promptly, and later the plaque was taken down under police supervision.

“In the presence of the police, the Gujarati plaque was removed, and the BJP MLA’s worker publicly apologised to the Marathi community and promised to install a Marathi sign within a few hours,” the MNS said in a statement.
