AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava denied bail in attempted murder case
July 14, 2025
Rajpipla: A court in Narmada district on Monday rejected the regular bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava, who was arrested on July 5 in an attempted murder case. The court cited the seriousness of the allegations and Vasava’s criminal history while denying the bail.
Additional sessions judge A.V. Hirpara observed that Vasava has faced 18 criminal cases since 2014. The court expressed concern that, if granted bail, the MLA might misuse his political influence to threaten witnesses and hinder the investigation. The prosecution also submitted audio-visual evidence of alleged threats to damage government offices and jails if Vasava was not released.
The court noted that while Vasava claimed acquittal in most of the past cases, no documentation was submitted to support this. It also mentioned that in 2023, Vasava was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in an assault case, though he was released on probation.
Considering all these factors, the court concluded that granting bail at this stage would not be appropriate and rejected the application in the interest of justice.
Vasava, who represents Dediapada constituency and is a tribal leader, was booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including 109 for attempt to murder, after allegedly attacking a taluka panchayat president during a meeting at the prant office.
According to the FIR, Vasava became agitated when his nominee was not appointed to the ‘Aapno Taluko Vibrant Taluko’ committee. He allegedly abused the Sagbara taluka panchayat president and then assaulted Dediapada panchayat president Sanjay Vasava by throwing a mobile phone at his head. He also reportedly tried to attack with a glass and threatened to kill him using broken shards, but was stopped by police personnel.
