Tragedy at Adalaj Canal: Pediatrician Dr. Nirav Brahmabhatt Drowns While Fulfilling Daughter’s Ritual

Gandhinagar – In a deeply tragic incident that has left the medical community and locals in shock, 39-year-old pediatrician Dr. Niravkumar Ravindrabhai Brahmabhatt drowned in the Adalaj Narmada Canal on Saturday while accompanying his six-year-old daughter for a traditional ritual of immersion of Zavera after Goro vrat (Gauri Vrat).

Dr. Nirav, husband of Dr. Kosha Brahmabhatt — a medical officer at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital — had taken his 6-year old daughter Dwija to the canal on Honda Activa two-wheeler to fulfill a vow she had taken, which involved immersion of Zavera basket in the canal water. The Brahmabhatt family resides in the Anasya Greens Society in Vavol, Gandhinagar.

According to initial reports, the father and daughter reached the main Narmada Canal on an Activa two-wheeler. While assisting his daughter near the water, Dr. Nirav stepped into the canal to release Zavera in water. Tragically, his foot slipped, and he lost balance, quickly being pulled into the canal’s currents.

Witnesses said that little Dwija screamed in panic as she saw her father struggling and submerging in the water. A passing rickshaw driver noticed the child’s cries and the doctor was pulled out of the water.

Emergency services were called, and Dr. Nirav was immediately taken to the nearby Adalaj Community Health Centre (CHC), where attending doctors administered CPR and other life-saving measures. Despite all efforts, he was declared dead on arrival due to water inhalation and drowning.

Dr. Kosha, upon learning of the incident, rushed to the CHC in her car, only to be met with the devastating news of her husband’s demise.

Adalaj Police have registered a case of accidental death. The loss of Dr. Nirav, a dedicated pediatrician and father, has cast a pall of grief across Gandhinagar’s medical fraternity. The family, friends, and community mourn the untimely death of a compassionate doctor and a loving parent. DeshGujarat
