Junagadh’s Willingdon Dam overflows after heavy rainfall

Junagadh: The district of Junagadh has been witnessing relentless rainfall since yesterday, with heavy downpours particularly lashing the Girnar hills and Datar mountain ranges. Due to the continuous rain, the iconic Willingdon Dam has started overflowing, attracting large crowds eager to witness the mesmerizing scenes of nature in full bloom.

As water gushes out from the dam like a white sheet, picturesque views have emerged across the area. Local residents thronged the dam site to enjoy the cool breeze, dense clouds, and cascading waters. Many were seen capturing photos and videos of the natural spectacle and sharing them on social media. The rainy ambiance, fog-covered hills, flowing streams, and the overflowing dam have all contributed to a breathtaking experience for visitors.

Junagadh district witnessed an average rainfall of 3 inches in the last 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. today, while Girnar, Datar, and the surrounding forest regions received even higher rainfall compared to the city areas. With the Willingdon Dam, nestled in the lap of Girnar, now filled to capacity, it has overflowed for the second time this season.

As the dam overflows, its connected canals and rivers have also seen a rise in water levels. This has brought relief and happiness to farmers, as it boosts prospects for timely sowing in the days ahead. DeshGujarat
