AMC to purchase Mammography Machines for 3 Civic Hospitals for detection of Breast Cancer

Ahmedabad: In a move to bolster early breast cancer detection and treatment, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced the purchase of three mammography machines for its municipal hospitals. This initiative aims to provide affordable and timely screening for women, crucial for saving lives through early diagnosis.

Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani stated that the AMC’s executive committee has approved the procurement of these essential machines for Shardaben General Hospital, LG Hospital, and SVP Hospital. The total expenditure for this vital equipment is estimated to be ₹2.68 crore.

The decision comes in response to the growing demand for mammography services in civic hospitals. According to hospital data, SVP Hospital alone sees over 25 patients daily requiring mammography tests, while LG Hospital attends to more than three such patients each day.

“Early detection of breast cancer is paramount for effective treatment and saving a woman’s life,” said Chairman Dani. “By equipping our municipal hospitals with mammography machines, we are strengthening our healthcare infrastructure and making these crucial diagnostic services accessible to more women in Ahmedabad.” DeshGujarat
