Rajkot: Outspoken Rajya Sabha member and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rambhai Mokariya has once again expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of action taken on his repeated representations to the government. Highlighting the ongoing closure of 18 Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) run halls due to the absence of a fire no-objection certificate (NOC) and required equipment, Mokariya criticized the municipal administration’s inefficiency.

Concerns Over Wedding Season Impact

Speaking to the media, Mokariya emphasized that the closure of these halls is causing significant inconvenience, especially during the peak wedding season. Middle- and lower-income families, who rely on these affordable municipal halls for wedding functions, are being forced to look at costlier private venues, which are often beyond their reach.

Mokariya said he had submitted a written representation to the RMC two months ago, requesting the reopening of the halls. He raised the issue again during a recent coordination meeting involving government officials, MLAs, and other stakeholders. Despite his persistent efforts, no concrete action has been taken.

Questions Over Administrative Priorities

Mokariya also questioned the priorities of RMC officials, pointing out inconsistencies in their decisions. He highlighted that private school buildings and the Rajkot Chamber of Commerce president’s building are reopened and unsealed by RMC despite the same fire safety concerns.

“Under what rules are these private venues allowed to remain open while municipal halls are closed?” he asked, accusing the municipal administration of double standards.

Further, Mokariya alleged that while the RMC commissioner has approved tenders worth ₹1,000 crore for other project, no steps have been taken to reopen the municipal halls.

Criticism of Coordination Meetings

Mokariya expressed frustration over the ineffectiveness of coordination meetings, where issues are raised openly in the presence of 150 attendees, including senior government officials and legislators. According to him, the officers’ responses often lack substance, and follow-up actions are minimal.“The junior assistants prepare standard replies to every issue raised, rendering these meetings pointless,” Mokariya said.

Call for Accountability

The BJP MP urged the district collector and municipal authorities to prioritize the reopening of RMC halls, ensuring that families have access to affordable venues during the wedding season.  DeshGujarat
