DRI Surat nabs 2 from moving train with 10 kg smuggled gold

Surat: Acting on a tip-off that 10 kg of gold smuggled from abroad was being transported from Ahmedabad to Mumbai by train after leaving Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, a team from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Surat dispatched teams to Bharuch and Ankleshwar railway stations. Both suspects were apprehended on the moving train just before reaching Surat railway station, along with the gold in paste form.

It is reported that when the suspects were debarked at Surat railway station, they created a ruckus. However, DRI officials quickly took them out of the station and brought them to the Surat office.

It is learned that the two suspects were en route to Mumbai with the gold paste, weighing around 10 kg. If 10 kg of pure gold is in the form of paste, the total value would reach 8 crores. However, the DRI has not yet made any official announcement regarding the total quantity of seized gold and the identities of the arrested individuals. The DRI is likely to present both suspects to the DRI court in Surat for remand today. DeshGujarat
