Porbandar: Madhavpur, a coastal village located around 60 kms from Porbandar, is renowned as the sacred site where Lord Shri Krishna and Rukmaniji were married, drawing millions of devotees annually. The state government has undertaken the development of Madhavpur in two phases, with the first phase focusing on beautification at a cost of Rs. 42.43 crores.
In this initial phase, a new temple dedicated to Mata Rukmini will be constructed with artistic stone carvings from Dhrangadhra, following the Sompura Shastra. As of now, Rukmaniji’s statue resides in a dilapidated temple resembling a house, which will now be transformed into a grand temple. Additionally, improvements will be made to Sri Mahaprabhuji’s Baithak, the Chori Myra site, Brahma Kund, and the Mela Ground. Beach development is also planned along the road leading to Madhavaraiji Temple.
According to folklore, Lord Krishna brought Rakmani, the daughter of King Bhishmaka, from what is now Arunachal Pradesh to Madhavpur for their marriage. A grand fair is held here annually from Chaitra Sud Nom (Ramnavami day) to Teras (five days). On Wednesday, April 17, Governor Acharya Devvrat visited Madhavpur and participated in the traditional wedding ceremony of Lord Krishna.
Sources indicate that renovation works for the Sri Madhavaraiji temple, along with the construction of necessary facilities in the area, will be carried out in the second phase. The first phase is expected to be completed by October. DeshGujarat
