DGCA suspends licenses of IndiGo pilots for Ahmedabad Airport tail strike incident

Ahmedabad: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken action against two IndiGo pilots over a tail strike incident that occurred on June 15 at SVPI airport here. The DGCA has suspended the license of the captain for three months and the co-pilot for one month after conducting an investigation and evaluating their explanation.

IndiGo’s A321 aircraft, operating as flight 6E6595 from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad, suffered a tail strike during landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city on June 15. Following the event, the aircraft was grounded for assessment and repairs, and the two pilots were removed from duty.

The DGCA found that the landing was carried out in deviation from established standard operating procedures (SOPs), leading to the tail strike. The DGCA issued a show cause notice to both pilots, and after reviewing their responses and relevant facts, the captain’s license was suspended for three months, and the co-pilot’s license was suspended for one month for violating the relevant Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) and SOPs.
