Gandhinagar: Speaking in a function, Harsh Sanghavi, the minister of State for culture in Gujarat government today explained that there’s no fresh GST imposed on professional garba events with ticket price above Rs. 500. He pointed out that GST on such professionally organized event is in practice since 2017. He added that prior to GST, there was Sales Tax and Value Added Tax effective on such events.
‘Since 2017 there has been GST in the country. Prior to that there was Sales Tax and Vat. Businessmen here know it well, but those who are dreaming to form government in this State don’t know it! Shraddha and culture are two important things and people do celebrate cultural programmes with devotion.’

‘But then some people also organize such events on professional basis. And not just in Gujarat, but wherever across the nation if they do such events in professional manner, and if the ticket price is above Rs. 500 per person then GST is effective on such ticket. But even before GST was introduced, there was 15 per cent VAT and Service Tax effective on such tickets. Today it’s GST and it is effective nationally in same manner.’
