Halvad salt processing unit to be closed after yesterday’s disaster

Halvad: The Factory Safety Office has found hat that the salt packing unit at Halvad, where 12 laborers lost their lives due to the wall collapse, was operating without a proper factory licence because of which the power supply of the unit in question was promptly cut, a notice to close down the factory was issued and directions have been issued to initiate punitive action against the owners.
A primary report prepared by the factory inspector in light of yesterday’s disaster mentions that Sagar Salt was operating without any licence. According to government rules, any unit that employs more than 10 people must have a valid factory licence.
According to the report, only those laborers who were away for lunch remained unscathed.
According to the Morbi district collector, Sagar Salt is in the business of processing salt and packaging it into 1 kg bags. The unit is a partnership concern, of which two partners are from Rajasthan whereas one partner is from Tiker village of Halvad. The laborers employed by Sagar Salt are mostly from Kutch and Radhanpur.
More details are expected to come to light as legal proceedings are initiated against the owners of Sagar Salt. DeshGujarat
