Estimated number of birds up at Nal and Thol sanctuaries in Gujarat

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today announced estimated figures of bird census conducted at Nal Sarovar and Thal Sarovar bird sanctuaries situated near Ahmedabad during 29-30 January.
She said this year arrival of migratory birds has been up by 54,000.
Nal Sarovar had presence of 2.97 lakh birds while Thol had presence of 23,000 birds in year 2014. In 2016 the growth has been 16,000 in Nal and 38,000 in Thol with estimated number of birds 3.13 lakh at Nal and 61,000 at Thol.
Forest department of state government started counting of birds in year 1992 at Nal Sarovar and and in 2006 at Thol bird sanctuary. Counting takes place once every two years.
