Pakistani Mohalla in Surat renamed to Hindustani Mohalla

Surat: Pakistan Mohalla in Ramnagar of the Rander area of the city has been officially renamed Hindustani Mohalla, with a new signboard inaugurated by BJP Surat West MLA Purnesh Modi in the presence of local residents. With the nation celebrating Independence Day today, locals are eager to visit an Aadhaar camp this Sunday to update their addresses with the new name.

The locality traces its roots to the post-Partition migration, when many Sindhi refugees settled in Surat, establishing a colony known as Ramnagar, comprising around 600 homes. Over time, part of this colony came to be popularly known as Pakistan Mohalla.

Earlier attempts to rename the area, such as naming an internal crossroad Hemu Kalani Chowk, had not gained widespread acceptance among residents. However, the MLA initiated a proposal a few years ago, which received support from the municipal authorities.

MLA Modi encouraged locals to update their Aadhaar records, highlighting the renaming as a significant step in giving the area a new identity. He also announced that arrangements would be made to assist residents in updating their Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, ration cards, and other important documents reflecting the old name, “Pakistan Mohalla.”

Residents can avail this facility on Sunday, 17 August 2025, and Sunday, 24 August 2025, between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM at the Seva Setu–Loan Mela program at Navyug College Campus, Rander Road, Surat.
