Congress Alleges Bias in Semiconductor Project Allocation; Claims Favouritism Towards Gujarat

New Delhi: The main opposition party, Congress, on Thursday alleged that the Modi government is “biased” against states governed by the opposition when it comes to the allocation of semiconductor manufacturing projects. This comes after the Union government recently approved four semiconductor manufacturing projects in Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh with an outlay of ₹4,600 crore.

Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, in his tweet said, “The Modi Govt has just green signalled 4 semiconductor manufacturing projects in the country. After doing detailed home work, a leading private company had submitted its application for a project in Telangana. This was approved on the condition that it relocates to Andhra Pradesh. Much earlier similar transfer of locations were forced through. 2 semiconductor manufacturing projects were compelled to shift their proposed location from Telangana to Gujarat. Similarly, another factory planned for Tamil Nadu got approval on the condition that it shifts to Gujarat. Need anything more be said? The PM speaks of competition among states that will make India strong. But if the umpire is so blatantly biased, the competition becomes a farce.”

Now, this is yet another anti-Gujarat statement made by the Congress party, as there is a long list of such remarks targeting Gujarat by Congress and its INDI alliance partners. None of these recently approved projects are in Gujarat, and there has been no official statement from the companies about moving their projects to Gujarat due to government pressure, but it seems that the opposition continues to target Gujarat as it is the home state of the Prime Minister.
