Lion Conservation Seminar to Teach About Future Landscape for Gir, Barda: RS MP Nathwani

Sasan Gir: The International Seminar on Lion Conservation was held today at Sinh Sadan in Sasan Gir, the home of Asiatic lions, highlighting collective efforts towards preserving this majestic species. The seminar was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP and lion enthusiast Parimal Nathwani, along with Mulubhai Bera, Gujarat’s Minister for Forest, Environment, and Climate Change.

Addressing the media about the seminar, Nathwani said, “Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi always says that we do everything in Gir, but we should also know what happens around the world. For example, we saw a presentation about South Africa. We had the opportunity to listen to people from across the world and India. It is not just about lions, but conservation as a whole. As we saw yesterday, the population of lions is increasing in Gir, and Barda will also see a similar trend. We would soon say, ‘If you have not seen Barda, then you have not seen anything.’”

“Yesterday, a presentation was made about the future landscape as Gir witnesses heavy crowds. This seminar will teach us and give us knowledge about what should be done in the future,” he added.

Notably, World Lion Day was celebrated across 11 districts of Gujarat, with the main state-level function held in Barda Wildlife Sanctuary, which has become the second home for Asiatic lions. The sanctuary now houses 17 lions, including cubs. DeshGujarat
