IMD forecasts Light to Moderate Monsoon Rains in New Week in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has on Sunday evening in its bulletin forecast light to moderate rainfall in most districts, with a gradual increase in intensity by the end of the week in Gujarat.

Day-wise Monsoon Outlook (from August 11 onwards)

Day 1 (August 11–12):
A spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is likely at scattered places across North Gujarat districts — including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar.

In South Gujarat, rainfall is expected in pockets of Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad, as well as in the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
Saurashtra-Kutch districts such as Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, and Diu may also get intermittent showers. The rainfall is expected to be mostly beneficial for standing crops, with no major weather warnings in effect.

Day 2 (August 12–13):
Similar rainfall distribution is expected across the state, but isolated districts may see brief intense spells due to localized cloud development. Farmers in North Gujarat may experience light showers in agricultural belts of Mehsana, Sabarkantha, and Banaskantha, which could help maintain soil moisture. Coastal belts in Saurashtra such as Porbandar, Dwarka, and Gir Somnath may see occasional sea breeze-driven showers. South Gujarat will continue to see activity in Surat, Navsari, and Bharuch, aiding Kharif crop growth.

Day 3 (August 13–14):
The monsoon pattern will remain steady, with rain at a few places in all regions. In North Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Kheda may experience short-lived showers, while in South Gujarat, rainfall could be concentrated in the Narmada and Tapi river basins. Saurashtra districts like Rajkot and Amreli could get brief, locally heavy showers during afternoon or evening hours. Rural areas in Dang and Valsad may also receive good rain for groundwater recharge.

Day 4 (August 14–15):
Showers will persist in a scattered manner across Gujarat, maintaining adequate moisture in fields ahead of Independence Day. North Gujarat is likely to see cloud cover with occasional light to moderate showers in districts such as Panchmahal, Dahod, and Aravalli. In South Gujarat, light rainfall is expected along the Tapi and Narmada belt, with sporadic activity in Navsari and Valsad. Saurashtra-Kutch will see spotty rain in coastal and interior areas, with Bhavnagar, Amreli, and Junagadh among the likely recipients.

Day 5 (August 15–16):
Light to moderate rain will continue at a few places across the state. In North Gujarat, interior districts like Banaskantha and Patan may get brief rainfall in the early morning or evening. South Gujarat districts, particularly the Dang forest belt and Valsad coast, could see intermittent showers. Saurashtra-Kutch’s rainfall will be confined mostly to southern Saurashtra, with Junagadh, Amreli, and Gir Somnath receiving occasional rain.

Day 6 (August 16–17):
The monsoon is expected to pick up towards the end of the week, with many districts in North and South Gujarat witnessing widespread light to moderate showers. Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kheda, and Anand may see sustained rainfall spells. South Gujarat districts such as Surat, Navsari, and Valsad are likely to get prolonged rain beneficial for late-sown crops. In Saurashtra-Kutch, Surendranagar, Rajkot, and coastal areas like Dwarka and Porbandar may experience showers accompanied by breezy conditions.

Overall Outlook:

While no major heavy rainfall warnings have been issued beyond August 10, the steady monsoon activity will keep the weather mild and humid, and support agriculture across the state. The IMD does not expect any large change in the weather pattern through August 19. It must be noted that this is a week-long forecast, and it can change any day through this week with issuance of fresh forecast. DeshGujarat
