Construction of New Integrated Terminal at Ahmedabad Airport to Kick Off by March 2026

Ahmedabad: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city is gearing up for a significant transformation, with construction of a new integrated terminal building expected to begin by March 2026.

As part of the plan, Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Ltd (AAIAL) has reportedly submitted proposals to both state and central authorities to relocate key infrastructure components, including the current Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, the state hangar, and the General Aviation (GA) terminal. This large-scale reconfiguration is aimed at creating space for a unified terminal capable of handling increasing passenger volumes over the next decade.

According to a report, development will unfold in two phases, and only after the first phase becomes operational will the company proceed with shifting the ATC to a new location.

With an estimated project cost exceeding ₹3,100 crore, the new integrated terminal will initially replace the current Gujsail terminal, which will be relocated. The new terminal is expected to nearly double the airport’s current passenger handling capacity — from 1.2 crore in FY 2025 to 2 crore annually.

In addition to merging domestic and international flight operations into a single facility, the terminal will include more check-in counters, several security lanes, larger lounges, and over 10 aerobridges to reduce waiting times.

The integration of DigiYatra technology will allow passengers to move from the entrance to the boarding gate in as little as 12 minutes.

It is also learned that once the new terminal becomes operational, the existing domestic terminal (T1) will be demolished, making room for further airport expansion. With the expansion of the international terminal (T2) nearing completion, some domestic flights may temporarily be shifted there to ease congestion.

The report further stated that the objective is to complete both construction phases before 2036. If Ahmedabad is selected as a host city for the Olympics, the new terminal must be ready to handle the anticipated surge in international passengers with world-class amenities. DeshGujarat
