Surat: In a bid to curb crime and keep a close watch on anti-social elements, the Surat Police has received eight new high-tech drones worth ₹25 lakh, enhancing its surveillance capabilities ahead of the festive season. With the addition of these drones, the department now has a total fleet of 20 drones at its disposal.
Surat Police Commissioner Anupamsinh Gehlot stated that the drones would play a crucial role during upcoming festivals when large crowds are expected to gather. The drones will help maintain law and order, monitor sensitive and densely populated areas, and assist in search and combing operations.
“These drones are highly beneficial for monitoring suspicious activities during major public gatherings,” Gehlot said. He emphasized that the new technology would significantly aid in strengthening the city’s security arrangements.
According to the Commissioner, the drones procured through the Director General of Police (DGP) office, will also be valuable in criminal investigations. The footage captured can serve as admissible evidence in court, potentially aiding in solving crimes and improving conviction rates.
Previously, the Surat Police had 12 drones. The addition of eight new units is expected to enhance real-time surveillance, especially in congested or high-risk zones. DeshGujarat
