Amrit Bharat Scheme: Railway Minister updates on redevelopment of Ahmedabad, Surat, other stations

New Delhi: Out of the 87 railway stations in Gujarat identified for development under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, work at 18 stations has been completed so far, and projects at others—including Ahmedabad, Surat, Somnath, Bhuj, and Asarva—are progressing at a good pace, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
In his reply to question, the Railway Minister said, “Development works at railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in the state of Gujarat have been taken up at a good pace. Till now, phase-I works at 18 stations (Darkor, Derol, Hapa, Jam Jodhpur, Jam Wanthali, Kanalus Jn, Karamsad, Kosamba Jn, Limbdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Rajula Jn, Samakhiyali, Sihor Jn, and Utran) have been completed under this scheme.”
He also shared the status of progress at key stations:

Ahmedabad station: The structural work of the second entry parcel building has been completed, and finishing work is underway. Structural works for the south-side Multi Modal Transport Hub building, air concourse, new foot overbridge, elevated road, ballastless track, and platform no. 10 improvements are in progress.

Somnath station: The structural work of basement parking has been completed. Other ongoing works include the new station building, finishing of basement parking, construction of an underground water tank, and new platform shelters.

Surat station: The structural work of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) building, sewage treatment plant, and drain construction has been completed. Finishing of the GSRTC building, construction of the second entry station building, air concourse, and elevated road is underway.

Dahod station: Completed works include improvements to the station building, construction of a new porch, upgrades to the circulating area, booking counter and waiting hall improvements, platform surfacing at platform no. 1, new platform shelter, and better station illumination. Construction of a new 12 m foot overbridge has been taken up.

New Bhuj station: Structural works of the new main entry and second station building, new porch, and air concourse have been completed. Finishing works of the station buildings, construction of a foot overbridge, and platform improvements are ongoing.

Asarva station: Completed works include the structural work of the new station building, platform surfacing of platform no. 1, platform shelter, improvements to the waiting room, and upgrades to the old station building. Ongoing works include finishing of the new station building, construction of a 12 m foot overbridge, and enhancements to parking and toilets.
The minister also clarified that the development, upgradation, and modernisation of stations, including those under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, are generally funded under Plan Head-53 ‘Customer Amenities’. The allocation and expenditure details are maintained zonal railway-wise, not station-wise or state-wise. For the financial year 2025–26, a fund allocation of ₹12,118 crore has been made under Plan Head–53 for all zonal railways, of which ₹2,612 crore has been spent up to June 2025.
