GMRC seeks six parking plots for 4 Ahmedabad metro stations to ease commuter woes

Ahmedabad: Commuters who use the metro rail service often struggle to find parking when they drive their own vehicles to reach metro stations. Currently, only around four metro stations in the city have parking facilities, including a two-wheeler parking area at Kalupur metro station.

To address this gap, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has formally requested the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to allocate six parking plots near four key stations. Now, the AMC will verify these plots and explore ways to facilitate allocation once ownership is confirmed.

The proposed parking plots are planned near key metro stations to improve commuter convenience. At Apparel Park station, a plot is located about 50 metres away. At Gurukul Road station, the parking space is planned right at the station’s entry and exit area. Similarly, plots near Thaltej and Thaltej Gaam stations are proposed within a distance of approximately 50 metres each. As per government policy, the corporation will charge a token fee for the use of these parking plots.

Officials said that municipal officers had earlier conducted site visits along both metro corridors to identify possible parking locations, but no final decision was taken then. Now, GMRC has officially submitted a proposal seeking parking plots at Gurukul and Thaltej Gaam stations, requesting two plots each in these areas.

At present, commuters often park on nearby roads or public spaces at stations like Gurukul and Thaltej. Some passengers rely on AMTS buses or private rickshaws to reach the stations but face difficulties getting back home, especially in the evening after work. DeshGujarat
