July 27, 2025
Khambhat, Anand: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) successfully trapped a Police Sub Inspector from Khambhat City Police Station and his accomplice yesterday, July 26, 2025, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3,00,000. The operation, initiated by an alert citizen, resulted in the recovery of the entire bribe amount.
The accused have been identified as P.D. Rathod, PSI, Khambhat City Police Station, currently residing at D-8, Akruti Township, Katakpur Road, Khambhat, and Mohmand Imran Mohmand Usman Sodagar, a middleman who is private citizen residing at S/323, Nakratni Pol, Khambhat.
According to details provided by the ACB, the complainant’s mobile number appeared in the call details of an accused in a Cow beef-related crime registered at Khambhat City Police Station on July 3, 2025. Leveraging this, accused No. 1, P.D. Rathod, initially demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,00,000 through accused No. 2, Mohmand Imran Sodagar. The demand was made to prevent the complainant and his family from being implicated as accused in the beef case.
After fervent pleas from the complainant, the bribe amount was negotiated down to Rs. 3,00,000. Unwilling to succumb to the extortion, the complainant approached the Anand ACB Post Office.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a trap was laid on July 26, 2025, at Tadchha Hotel near Lal Darwaza, Khambhat. During the operation, accused No. 2, Mohmand Imran Sodagar, engaged in a pre-arranged conversation with the complainant in the presence of a ‘Panch’ (witness). He then accepted the demanded bribe amount of Rs. 3,00,000. Immediately upon receiving the money, accused No. 2 made a WhatsApp call to accused No. 1, P.D. Rathod, discussing the receipt of the bribe, to which Rathod agreed.
Accused No. 2, Mohmand Imran Sodagar, was apprehended on the spot with the recovered bribe money. However, sensing danger, accused No. 1, P.D. Rathod, managed to flee from the scene.
The ACB has stated that both accused conspired and assisted each other in committing the crime. P.D. Rathod, as a public servant, is accused of misusing his official position to commit the crime.
The successful trapping operation was led by Ms. M.L. Rajput, Police Inspector, Anand ACB Post Office, Anand, and her dedicated team. The operation was supervised by Mr. K.B. Chudasama, Assistant Director, ACB, Ahmedabad Unit, Ahmedabad. Further investigation into the matter is underway to apprehend the absconding accused and bring all involved parties to justice.
