GMRC to increase frequency on Vastral – Thaltej route of Ahmedabad Metro

Ahmedabad: In response to the steadily increasing number of passengers, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has decided to increase the frequency of metro trains on the East–West corridor, which runs from Vastral Gam to Thaltej Gam.

From now on, metro trains will operate every 7 minutes during morning and evening peak hours on the East–West corridor. During non‑peak hours, trains will be available every 10 minutes. Meanwhile, on the North–South corridor from APMC to Motera, the frequency remains unchanged, with metro services every 12 minutes.

On Sundays and public holidays, metros will run every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 12 minutes during non‑peak hours.

Earlier, an average of 75–77 trips were operated daily on the East–West corridor. With the increased frequency, this number will rise to around 85 trips per day.

Currently, about 70% of metro passengers travel on the East–West corridor, while the remaining 30% use the North–South corridor. Passenger traffic has been rising steadily on the East–West route, especially during peak hours between 8 am and 11 am, and 5 pm and 8 pm.

Passenger numbers on Ahmedabad Metro have surged by nearly 35–40% over the past two years. According to GMRC officials, the average daily ridership grew from around 67,000 passengers in June 2023 to 94,000 in June 2024, and further to 1.31 lakh in June 2025. DeshGujarat
