July 24, 2025
Ahmedabad: The vice-principal of a nursing college in Meghaninagar has been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 8 lakh from the college’s office safe. Police cracked the case after spotting a crucial detail in CCTV footage — a birthmark near the woman’s right eye.
The 42-year-old accused, who lives in Shahibaug, later admitted to the crime, telling investigators she had fallen deep into debt because of an addiction to online rummy. According to police, she used a spare key that had been left unsecured in a drawer in the same room as the safe, and stole the student fee money around 6 am on July 22.
Based on a complaint filed on Tuesday, police booked her under Section 305 (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and said they plan to add Section 306 for theft by a clerk or servant.
Police recovered Rs 2.36 lakh in cash from her home, while the remaining Rs 5.64 lakh had already been transferred to her gaming wallet, which has now been frozen. She faces charges under theft sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
