July 20, 2025
Porbandar – The Government of Gujarat has announced that this year’s State-level Independence Day celebrations on August 15 will be held in Porbandar, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi.
The tradition of holding the State’s main Independence Day event outside the capital city of Gandhinagar was initiated by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The practice has since been carried forward by successive Chief Ministers to promote regional inclusivity and participation across the state.
The celebrations in Porbandar will be marked by the presence of the Governor of Gujarat, the Chief Minister, and other senior state leaders and officials. Preparations are already in progress for the main function, which will include the ceremonial flag hoisting, an official parade, and the customary “At Home” reception.
Security arrangements, infrastructure readiness, and logistical planning are being coordinated to ensure a smooth and dignified observance of the 78th Independence Day. Further details regarding public participation and scheduled cultural programs are expected to be announced in the coming days. DeshGujarat
