IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rains in these parts of Gujarat

Kutch: The India Meteorological Department today, in its latest forecast, has issued an orange alert for some districts of North Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch, with the possibility of very heavy rains in these areas during the next 24 hours.

The IMD, in its bulletin, said that heavy to very heavy rains are very likely at isolated places in the districts of Banaskantha, Patan, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Kutch, and therefore these districts have been put on orange alert till 8:30 am on Sunday. During this period, heavy rain might also lash Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, and Dwarka, while the rest of Gujarat is likely to get light to moderate rain.

On Sunday also, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Kutch district are likely to get heavy rains and have been put on yellow alert by the IMD. Other regions of the state might only get light to moderate rain during the next seven days till July 25.

As per the synoptic situation stated by the IMD, the depression over northwest and adjoining areas of northeast Rajasthan moved nearly westwards with a speed of 15 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred at 1430 hrs IST today, the 19th of July, 2025, over northwest Rajasthan, near latitude 27.5°N and longitude 74.2°E — about 60 km northeast of Nagaur, 90 km west of Sikar, 100 km east-southeast of Bikaner, and 190 km east-northeast of Phalodi. It is likely to move nearly westwards across northwest Rajasthan and weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 12 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to pass through the centre of the depression over northwest and adjoining areas of northeast Rajasthan, Fatehgarh, Muzaffarpur, Bankura, Contai, and then east-southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal. DeshGujarat
