Stray dog menace claims life of another child in Gujarat

Porbandar: In yet another incident of stray dog menace, a two-month-old child has succumbed to injuries sustained during a dog attack.

The incident occurred in Kutiyana town of Porbandar district, where a stray dog mauled a two-month-old baby. The attack took place in the orchard area of Kotda village, where a migrant labourer’s family was residing. The infant, child of Vishal Mahesh Vadakiya, sustained serious injuries in the attack and later succumbed despite receiving initial medical treatment.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with questions being raised about the inefficiency of municipal authorities in controlling the stray dog menace.

Experts have increasingly pointed to climate change as a contributing factor to changes in animal behaviour, including that of stray dogs. As global warming alters weather patterns and natural ecosystems, various living beings—from humans to animals—are experiencing behavioural and physiological shifts.

A Harvard University study has found a link between rising temperatures and an increase in dog bites. Researchers analyzed over 69,000 incidents and concluded that hotter days, higher ozone levels, and increased UV radiation are associated with more frequent dog attacks on humans. DeshGujarat
