IMD forecasts light to moderate rain across Gujarat this week

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall across several parts of Gujarat this week. Many districts in North and South Gujarat, as well as Saurashtra and Kutch regions, are likely to receive showers till July 22.

The IMD, in its bulletin, stated that the well-marked low-pressure area hovering over northwest Rajasthan and its neighbourhood continues to persist as of Wednesday afternoon, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. According to the IMD, this system is likely to move slowly north-northwestwards and gradually weaken into a low-pressure area over the next 12 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently passes through this low-pressure system over northwest Rajasthan, stretching across Gwalior, southwest Bihar, adjoining east Uttar Pradesh, Purulia, Contai, and then southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal.

As per the IMD forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at many places across North and South Gujarat districts, as well as Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli on July 16, while Saurashtra-Kutch districts and Diu may see rain at isolated places.

On July 21, rain activity may reduce slightly, with light to moderate showers likely at isolated places across the state and Union Territories.

After that, rainfall is likely to pick up again, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places in North and South Gujarat, and isolated spots in Saurashtra-Kutch and Diu. DeshGujarat
