Gandhinagar: Taking serious note of the inconvenience caused to citizens due to potholes on city roads during the monsoon, the Gujarat government has ordered strict legal action against responsible road contractors. A total of nine contractors from Surat and twelve from Vadodara have been slapped with fines after the roads managed or built by them developed potholes.
In Surat, the municipal corporation has penalised nine road contractors, including Sunil Domadia, K.K.B. Projects Pvt. Ltd., S.Z. Patel, A.K. Patel, Ambika Construction, Bhavani Construction, J.M. Shah, M.A. Patel, and Shreeji Construction, after key roads under the Defect Liability Period (DLP) were found to be in poor condition.
Similarly, in Vadodara, the municipal corporation found that reconstruction work on several roads did not meet the required quality standards. As a result, twelve contractors, including D.B. Patel, M.J.N.P. Infra., A.K. Mec Infra., M.S.K. Makwana & Co., M. Raj Infrastructure, M. Shivalay Infrastructure Pro. Pvt. Ltd., M. Shivam Construction, M. Binjal J. Gandhi, M. Gayatri Construction, M. Shri Hari Construction, M. Bhavin Enterprise, and M. Hindustan Fabricators, have been fined according to regulations.
Since contractors are responsible for any defects during the DLP, the government has also taken strict steps in Rajkot. Notices have been issued to contractors including Pavan Construction and Classic Construction, directing them to urgently complete full resurfacing of affected roads at their own expense.
The state government has also made it clear that if contractors fail to complete repairs within the specified time under the DLP, or if negligence leads to accidents or loss of life, strict criminal action will follow. DeshGujarat
