Gujarat to host Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025
July 15, 2025
Ahmedabad: Gujarat is all set to host the prestigious Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025 at the newly built Naranpura Sports Complex in Ahmedabad from August 24 to 30. The announcement was made by Minister of State for Sports Harsh Sanghavi following a meeting with officials from the Weightlifting Association.
The championship is expected to draw over 350 athletes from 32 countries, making it one of the most significant international sporting events to be held in the state. More than 40 technical experts, including both Indian and international officials, will oversee the event.
The event will also serve as a gateway for Gujarat’s ambitious bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030. It is set to highlight Gujarat’s expanding sports infrastructure and the state’s capability to host world-class events — especially as Ahmedabad has been nominated as India’s host city for the Olympic Games bid in 2036.
