Mandaviya Leads 31st Edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle Nationwide in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar -The 31st edition of ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ was held across the country on Sunday morning, with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya leading the charge in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The event witnessed participation from over 7,000 locations, with the message of “Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz.”
This week’s edition was held in collaboration with several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), attracting widespread participation from members of 3,000 Namo Fit India Cycling Clubs and various communities. In Gandhinagar, more than 500 participants joined Dr. Mandaviya, who emphasized the importance of fitness as a cornerstone of national transformation.
“Fit India ‘Sundays on Cycle’ has become a powerful national initiative, driving Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Fit India mission forward. It is more than a fitness campaign—it is a movement for change,” Dr. Mandaviya said during the event.
The Gandhinagar ride was flagged off by Arjuna Awardee and Para Powerlifting Chief Coach Rajinder Singh Rahelu at SAI Gandhinagar. Local officials including MLAs, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, District Collector, and Superintendent of Police were also present.
During his visit, Dr. Mandaviya also interacted with the Indian Youth Women’s Handball Team, who are undergoing training at the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Gandhinagar.
Major PSUs that took part in the campaign included PSPB, ONGC, Indian Oil, GAIL, HPCL, BPCL, EIL, Oil India, CPCL, IGL, NRL, MNGL, HMEL, Petronet LNG, Balmer Lawrie, Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited, ONGC MRPL, Gujarat Metro, NPCC, WAPCOS, LIC and others.
Lalit Kumar Watts, Advisor at Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), said, “The Fit India Sundays on Cycle is a significant initiative supported by the Prime Minister and the Sports Minister. All oil companies under PSPB actively participated, alongside athletes from sports like hockey, basketball, shooting, athletics and carrom.”
In New Delhi, the event took place at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in a festive setting with rope skipping, Zumba, and hatha yoga. Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion *The Great Khali* (Dalip Singh Rana) flagged off the ride, addressing a crowd of over 3,000 participants.
“To achieve the dream of India becoming a ‘Vishwaguru’, we must be fit. Fitness is the foundation of a strong nation. Let’s dedicate one hour a day to our health,” Khali said, also urging youth to avoid drug use and embrace fitness.
A special edition of the event was held in Gurgaon in collaboration with the Raahgiri Foundation. About 700 participants joined in cycling, yoga, and activities such as ludo, carrom, hand painting, street dance and more.
The’Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), MY Bharat, Rope Skipping led by Dr. Shikha Gupta, and Yogasana Bharat. Over 3,000 cycling clubs regularly participate, with events facilitated by Khelo India Centres (KICs), State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), and National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs).
The movement continues to promote a consistent fitness routine among citizens while uniting communities through physical activity and sports. DeshGujarat
