Surat Dream City to get major boost with Bharat Bazaar, textile hubs, helipads, and more
July 11, 2025
Surat: In a major infrastructure push, the Khajod Urban Development Authority and Dream City Company have initiated the revival of Dream City, aiming to transform it into a thriving hub for business, tourism, and recreation. While the ambitious Surat Diamond Bourse, touted as the world’s largest office building, is slowly gaining anticipated traction, authorities are now rolling out a broader vision to establish Dream City as a comprehensive commercial and lifestyle destination.
Selected by NITI Aayog for development as a Global South B2B and B2C zone, Dream City is set to house the country’s largest “India Market” by 2047. The Gujarat government has already allocated ₹50 crore for the next phase of development, with over ₹400 crore spent on groundwork so far. A consultant is working on the design and cost estimates for the upcoming phase, while a comprehensive master plan is underway as part of the Surat Regional Economic Development Plan.
Planned attractions include two five-star business hotels to cater to domestic and international buyers visiting Bharat Bazaar, a tech-enabled convention center, two shopping malls, and dedicated retail spaces. A major highlight is the Artisan Village and Museum, which will preserve and promote Indian handicrafts. Dedicated zones like the Textile & Apparel Bourse, Jewellery Bourse, and “souk-style” marketplaces will support both domestic and international trade.
Dream City will also feature modern connectivity options, including a helipad and vertipad for business travelers. Shalini Agrawal, Surat Municipal Commissioner, MD of Dream City, and Chairman of the Khajod Authority, stated, “The Bharat Bazaar in Dream City will be the largest in India. It will support both B2B and B2C models in sectors like jewelry, textiles, and apparel. An artisan village will be established to promote handicrafts and handlooms. It will be a unique destination where everything is available in one place.” DeshGujarat
