Congress may finalise new Gujarat chief today; top state leaders summoned to Delhi
July 10, 2025
Delhi: Following Shaktisinh Gohil’s resignation as Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president, top Congress leaders from the state have been summoned to Delhi for a crucial meeting. The meeting, to be chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, is expected to deliberate on the appointment of a new state chief. Former GPCC presidents and opposition leaders will participate in the discussions.
A total of seven senior leaders from Gujarat, including Bharatsinh Solanki, Amit Chavda, Siddharth Patel, Paresh Dhanani, Geniiben Thakor, Shailesh Parmar, and Shaktisinh Gohil, are in Delhi to attend the meeting. Sources suggest the party may finalise a new face for the Gujarat Congress chief post today. The leadership has been under pressure from Patidar and OBC community leaders who have been lobbying for representation in the top post.
Shaktisinh Gohil resigned on June 23, just hours after the results of the bypolls in Kadi and Visavadar were declared. Until a new president is named, Shailesh Parmar, MLA from Danilimda, has been given interim charge of the GPCC.
This marks the third resignation of a Gujarat Congress president in seven years. Amit Chavda stepped down after the party’s defeat in the 2021 local body elections, followed by Jagdish Thakor after the 2022 Assembly election loss. Gohil had taken charge in June 2023. DeshGujarat
