Over 200 get stranded as Ghogha-Hazira Ro-Pax ferry gets stuck off Bhavnagar coast
July 09, 2025
Rajkot: Around 245 passengers on the Ghogha-Hazira Ro-Pax ferry faced an unexpected ordeal on Tuesday evening when the vessel got stranded near the Ghogha jetty. The ferry, which was scheduled to depart for Hazira, got a buoy chain entangled in one of its propellers at around 5:20 PM, according to officials.
As a result, the ferry was forced to return and dock at the Ghogha berth. However, because the ferry’s head was facing away from the jetty, passengers and vehicles onboard could not be offloaded immediately. The vessel had to be turned around before disembarkation could begin.
Passengers, including those in vehicles, remained stuck on the ferry for over four hours. The service significantly reduces travel time between Bhavnagar and Surat from 10–12 hours by road to just 4 hours by sea. DeshGujarat
