AAP’s Chaitar Vasava held for issuing death threats to Dediyapada Taluka Panchayat chief

Dediapada: In yet another similar case, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava has been arrested for attempted murder following an alleged assault on a taluka panchayat official during a meeting in Dediapada.

The altercation occurred today during an ATVT (Aapno Taluko Vibrant Taluko) committee meeting held at the prant office within Vasava’s constituency. According to the FIR lodged at the Dediapada police station, the MLA became enraged after his nominee was excluded from the committee. He allegedly began verbally abusing a woman, the president of the Sagbara Taluka Panchayat.

When Dediapada Taluka Panchayat president Sanjay Vasava objected to the behavior, Chaitar Vasava allegedly attacked him by throwing a mobile phone, injuring him on the head. He also attempted to strike him with a glass, but police personnel intervened. As the glass broke, the MLA reportedly picked up the shards and moved aggressively toward Sanjay Vasava, threatening to kill him. Taluka development officers stepped in and managed to defuse the situation.

Later, when Vasava was detained at the Dediapada police station, a large crowd gathered outside. As tensions rose, a significant police force, including senior officials, was deployed to the station. Over 15 officers were stationed at the main gate to prevent people from entering the premises.

With the situation becoming increasingly volatile, police decided to move Chaitar Vasava to Rajpipla, the Narmada district headquarters. However, as they escorted him to the police jeep, his supporters allegedly blocked the road by lying in front of the vehicle and climbing on top of it. Police reportedly had to use force to disperse the crowd, sources said.

Police have booked Vasava under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and outraging the modesty of a woman. The complaint also accuses the MLA of damaging office furniture.

It is noteworthy that Chaitar Vasava was previously arrested in December 2023 for similar behavior. That arrest was linked to a dispute over the cultivation of forest land by local tribals in Narmada district. He was accused of threatening forest officers and firing shots in the air while attempting to address the issue. DeshGujarat
