Gujarat leads India in rooftop solar with 3.73 lakh installations

Ahmedabad: Gujarat continues to lead the nation in rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar (PMSG) Yojana, accounting for 32% of total installations across India, an official statement said.

Since the scheme’s launch in February 2024, the state has installed 3.73 lakh rooftop solar systems — the highest in the country — with an impressive conversion rate of 77%, far above the national average of 21%.

According to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), the state received 4.85 lakh applications for rooftop solar under the PMSG scheme, out of which 3.73 lakh were successfully executed.

In comparison, Kerala recorded 1.11 lakh installations with a 65% conversion rate, while Madhya Pradesh saw 44,859 installations with a 53% rate.

A senior GUVNL official stated that Gujarat has maintained its leadership in rooftop solar since the beginning, with citizens embracing it due to significant savings on electricity bills. The state currently has a residential rooftop solar capacity of around 1,400 MW under the scheme.

According to the data, Surat leads within Gujarat under the PMSG scheme with 48,275 installations, followed by Ahmedabad with 44,432. Cities such as Surat, Ahmedabad, and Rajkot have more rooftop solar systems than many entire states. DeshGujarat
