Car plunges into Narmada canal in Gandhinagar; 3 dead bodies recovered; rescue underway

Gandhinagar: In a tragic accident on the outskirts of Gandhinagar, a Kia Seltos car plunged into the Narmada canal, raising fears that all five occupants may have drowned. Upon being alerted, the fire brigade team rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. Three bodies have been recovered so far from the submerged vehicle, identified as Harsh Barot, Khushi, and another young man.
According to initial information, five individuals, residents of the Nikol area in Ahmedabad, were traveling in the Kia Seltos bearing registration number GJ03 MR 4783. Firefighters have recovered three bodies, while search operations are ongoing to locate the remaining victims. A hydro crane was called in to extract the vehicle from the canal.
Chief Fire Officer Rajesh Patel of the Gandhinagar Fire Department said that the fire control room received a report around 2:43 PM from Kiran Desai about a four-wheeler falling into the Narmada canal. The fire brigade team arrived on the spot and successfully pulled the vehicle and three bodies from the canal using ropes. The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed. All recovered bodies have been handed over to the police, and further search operations are underway.
The cause of the car veering off into the canal remains unclear, and an investigation has been launched by the police and local administration.
