AAP cadre sprays black ink, breaks nameplate of Mayor at VMC office

Vadodara: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers created a ruckus at the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) office on Monday. The cadre broke the nameplate outside Mayor Pinkiben Soni’s chamber and sprayed black ink on the chamber door while shouting slogans like “Mayor resign.” In response, Navapura police detained eight AAP workers, including two women.

AAP cadre stormed the VMC office, alleging corruption in the Vishwamitri River rejuvenation project and protesting against other issues such as potholes caused by monsoon rains, water problems, waterlogging, and the lack of justice in the Harni boat incident.

The AAP members claimed they had come to submit a memorandum, but due to the mayor’s absence, they began shouting slogans demanding her resignation and action on civic issues. The protest continued for nearly half an hour outside the mayor’s chamber. AAP workers damaged the nameplate and defaced the door with black ink. As the situation escalated, police intervened, removed the protestors, and detained them.

AAP Vadodara city general secretary Janviba Gohil said, “We came to raise various issues of Vadodara, but the mayor was absent. Enraged activists broke the nameplate and marked the door with protest messages. The mayor has no moral right to remain in office and should resign immediately.” DeshGujarat
