Row over viral video in which elephant was beaten up in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A video had gone viral in which a person in Sadhu dress was beating up a young elephant using stick repeatedly at Jagannath Mandir’s Hathikhana (the ground where elephants are kept). After uproar, the Police took cognizance of the incident. However the Chief Priest of Jagannath Mandir, Dilipdasji Maharaj and the Trustee of Jagannath Mandir Mahendra Jha appeared not much concerned about the incident. They opined that it was a small stick, and the elephant would not face any injury due to such a small stick, which they believe was being used to train the elephant. Jha said, the elephant in the video was here from Rajasthan along with his master and the person in the video has left the place. Meanwhile, based on an application received, police questioned some persons in connection with this incident. DeshGujarat
