Gujarat makes forensic expert visits, videography mandatory for serious crimes

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Home Department has issued a notification mandating the presence of forensic experts and videography at crime scenes involving offences punishable with seven years or more in prison. The move comes under Section 176(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

As per the notification published on June 10th, 2025, police station officers across the state are now required to ensure that a forensic expert visits the scene of such serious offences to collect evidence. Additionally, the entire process must be videographed using a mobile phone or other electronic devices. This step aims to strengthen the quality of investigation and ensure better documentation of evidence. DeshGujarat
