ACB Nabs Managing Trustee of Education Trust and Clerk Red-Handed Taking Rs. 2 Lakh Bribe

Rajkot: In a swift and successful operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday, June 9, 2025, apprehended two officials of the Gayatri Education Trust in Rajkot for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2,00,000. The trap was initiated based on a complaint filed by a vigilant citizen, a retired employee of Gayatri High School.

The accused have been identified as Gunvantrai Chunilal Khira (74), Managing Trustee of Gayatri Education Trust, and Dharmendrabhai Bhanushankarbhai Khira (55), a clerk at Gayatri High School.

According to ACB officials, the complainant, a retired employee of Gayatri High School, was due approximately ₹12,15,000 in arrears for dearness allowance (53%) and leave encashment. To expedite the payment of these dues, the complainant approached the accused. Initially, the accused allegedly demanded ₹3,00,000 as a “settlement” fee. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₹2,00,000, with the promise that the money would be delivered to their home.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant lodged a complaint with the ACB. A trap was subsequently laid at “Jaldeep,” 2/16 Vaniyawadi, Rajkot city. During the operation, accused Gunvantrai Khira was caught red-handed accepting the illegal gratification of ₹2,00,000 from the complainant in the presence of a witness (Panch-1). Accused Dharmendrabhai Khira was also present during the transaction.

Both accused were immediately apprehended at the scene. The entire bribe amount of ₹2,00,000 was successfully recovered by the ACB.

The successful trap operation was carried out by Police Inspector R.R. Solanki and his team from the ACB Police Station, Rajkot City. The operation was supervised by In-charge Assistant Director J.M. Aal, ACB Rajkot Unit, Rajkot.
