945 Tons Waste Removed from Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad; 1 lakh+ Join Cleanup Drive

Ahmedabad: The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd. (SRFDCL) today announced that over 945 tons of waste were removed from the Sabarmati River flowing through Ahmedabad in a massive cleanup drive. The drive, launched on May 15, saw the participation of over 1 lakh people.

SRFDCL, in a press note, said that on World Environment Day, and the final day of this mega campaign, today, June 5, 2025, over 5,000 Home Guards, more than 700 Civil Defence personnel, and over 1,000 police personnel also contributed their efforts. Today, a large-scale cleanup was carried out on the western bank of the Sabarmati River, in the area near NID under the Sardar Bridge, and at the ghat area under the Atal Bridge on the riverbank, collecting and appropriately disposing of a significant amount of waste from the river.

According to SRFDCL, since its commencement on May 15, 2025, more than 100,000 people have contributed their labor to realize the resolution of a clean Sabarmati. Over 150 NGOs, 25 + educational institutions, banks, real estate organizations like CREDAI Ahmedabad, industrial and corporate entities, and the citizens of Ahmedabad have made a noteworthy contribution to this resolution.

As the Swachh Sabarmati Maha Abhiyan concludes today, a total of over 945 metric tons of waste has been removed. This includes 166 metric tons of plastic, 86 metric tons of cloth, 90 metric tons of wood, and 608 metric tons of other waste. To ensure the proper disposal of this waste, mechanical facilities such as trucks, tractors, Hitachi, and JCB machines were made available daily, the press release added.

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation and the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd. have also appealed to citizens to pledge to keep the river clean. DeshGujarat
