Former UK PM Rishi Sunak to Attend IPL Final, Cheer for RCB at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Adding a diplomatic spark to the IPL 2025 Final, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is set to attend the high-octane clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera today.
Sunak, known for his Indian heritage and passion for cricket, expressed his support for RCB, saying, “My wife is from Bengaluru, so RCB is my team.” His presence is expected to draw international attention to what is already one of the most anticipated matches of the season.
The event is expected to witness a convergence of sports and diplomacy, with several dignitaries likely to attend, including senior officials from the Armed Forces, as the IPL final is dedicated to Indian Armed Forces for their dominance over Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
Currently in India to cheer for RCB as they chase their first-ever IPL title, Sunak shared in an interview with The Times of India that his in-laws had gifted him an RCB jersey when he got married, sparking a lasting connection with the team.
A self-professed cricket enthusiast, Sunak named Virat Kohli as his favorite player, calling him a “total legend.” He also proudly mentioned owning a signed bat from Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, describing it as “one of my prized possessions.”
