Surat police nab one for raping Hindu woman after luring her with marriage promise

Surat: Khatodara Police have arrested one Shahezad Sheikh for allegedly raping a Hindu woman after befriending her on social media and luring her with a false promise of marriage.
According to the police, the accused and the complainant came into contact through a social media platform, where Sheikh assured the woman that he intended to marry her. On this pretext, he allegedly established a physical relationship with her. However, when the woman later pressed for marriage, Sheikh refused and reportedly abandoned her.
Distressed by the betrayal, the woman approached Khatodara Police, who registered a case of rape and took the accused into custody. He is currently being interrogated, while the victim has been sent for a medical examination.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused repeatedly called the woman to meet him and coerced her into sexual relations. One such incident reportedly took place in a hotel in Surat. Given the sensitive nature of the case and the interfaith context, police are also probing whether the accused has been involved in similar offences against other women. DeshGujarat
