Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Gujarat: Section-wise progress update
May 31, 2025
Vadodara: The construction of the 1,386 km-long, eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is advancing swiftly. To facilitate efficient progress, the project has been divided into multiple sections and packages. This report offers a detailed package-wise update on the 426 km stretch of the expressway passing through Gujarat.
In Gujarat, the expressway falls under two sections, namely Delhi to Vadodara and Vadodara to Virar. The Delhi to Vadodara stretch consists of 31 packages in total, with packages 26 to 31 located within Gujarat, each at different stages of completion.
Package 26 starts in Madhya Pradesh, enters Gujarat near Chhayan village in Dahod district, and extends to Bhimpura village, with 67% of the work completed so far. Package 27 runs from Bhimpura village past the Limkheda Interchange to Sant Road and has reached 91% completion. Package 28, covering the stretch between Sant Road and the Godhra Interchange, stands at 92% complete.
Package 29, linking the Godhra Interchange to the Kalol Interchange, is fully finished at 100%.
Package 30 stretches from Kalol Interchange to Pratapnagar and has achieved 90% progress, while Package 31, from Pratapnagar to the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway (NE1) Interchange in Dodka village, Vadodara district, is 94% complete.
The Vadodara to Virar section includes 13 packages, of which Packages 1 to 10 lie within Gujarat, beginning from Vadodara and extending up to the Maharashtra border.
In this section, Packages 1, 2, and 3, covering the Vadodara-Bharuch segment, are fully operational up to Dehgam village in Bharuch district, ensuring seamless connectivity. Package 4, running from Manubar to Ankleshwar, is also fully completed, though not yet operational.
Packages 5 to 10 are at various stages of development. Package 5, covering the stretch from Ankleshwar to Kim Interchange, is 69% complete, while Package 6—from Kim Interchange to Ena Interchange near Surat—is 100% complete (with a provisional completion certificate issued). Package 7, spanning around 28 km, has reached 80% completion.
However, progress in Packages 8, 9, and 10—which cover the Jujuwa to Talasari stretch in South Gujarat up to the Maharashtra border—remains slow, with completion levels at 5%, 8%, and 28%, respectively.
Currently, in Gujarat, only the Vadodara-Bharuch segment of the expressway is open to traffic. The central government had earlier informed Parliament that the entire expressway is expected to be completed by October 2025. DeshGujarat
