Police Presence Made Mandatory During School Trips in Gujarat
May 30, 2025
Gandhinagar: In a significant move aimed at ensuring student safety during school excursions, Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay has mandated the presence of two uniformed police personnel during all school-organized trips across the state. This decision applies to all schools—government, semi-government, and private institutions.
The directive comes in response to key suggestions made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the DGP-IGP Conference 2024, held under the Prime Minister’s leadership.
As per the new guidelines:
-
1. Every school trip, tour, picnic, or visit must include two uniformed police officers.
-
2. If female students are part of the group, at least one woman police officer must accompany them.
-
3. School principals are instructed to coordinate directly with their local police stations to ensure timely deployment.
The DGP has formally communicated this directive to the Principal Secretary of the Education Department (Primary and Secondary) and requested that immediate instructions be issued to all school principals for swift implementation.
The initiative not only aims to strengthen student safety during educational outings but also serves a broader purpose: to build a bridge of trust and cooperation between students and the police force. By fostering such engagement, authorities hope to nurture a culture of mutual respect and understanding between the youth and law enforcement. DeshGujarat
