Suspicious Boat Sparks Search Off Jafrabad Coast

Jafrabad: A security alert was triggered in the maritime boundary of Jafrabad in Gujarat’s Amreli district on Sunday after a suspicious boat was spotted approximately 22 nautical miles from the port. The unidentified boat reportedly fled upon the arrival of the Indian Coast Guard, prompting an extensive search operation involving a helicopter.

According to initial reports, local fishermen first sighted the unfamiliar boat and attempted to approach it. However, the boat quickly changed course and began to move away. The fishermen promptly alerted the Coast Guard to the suspicious activity.

A Coast Guard team was immediately dispatched to the location via helicopter. Sources indicate that as the helicopter tried to get closer to the boat for investigation, the vessel accelerated and evaded scrutiny, reportedly heading towards Daman.

In response to the incident, authorities have issued an alert across all ports in the region, and security measures have been heightened. The Coast Guard, Navy, and local Marine Police are collaborating in the ongoing investigation. Patrols by the Pipavav Marine Police have also been intensified, with a close watch being maintained on all landing points along the coast.

Kanaiyalal Solanki, president of the Jafrabad Boat Association, stated that there were individuals visible on the suspicious boat. He confirmed that local fishermen are fully cooperating with the authorities in the search efforts.

Local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Hira Solanki, also reached Jafrabad port to assess the situation. He reportedly communicated with fishermen at sea via wireless to gather information regarding the suspicious vessel and the circumstances.

As of Sunday afternoon, officials have not yet released any specific information about the boat, its occupants, or its origins. The investigation remains active as authorities work to locate and identify the suspicious vessel. All maritime traffic is being closely monitored, and fishermen have been advised to remain vigilant and report any further unusual sightings.
